About Us
Our waterfront Paddle Hut is situated in the beautiful grounds of The Swan Hotel & Spa at Newby Bridge where we have a private launch spot onto the River Leven. We are ideally situated to provide a fantastic paddleboarding experience - simply paddle along the river and you’ll soon reach the foot of Lake Windermere where the valley opens up to reveal more stunning views of the Lake District National Park.
From our Paddle Hut we offer supervised board hire, from 2 hours to a full day’s rental, giving our customers the freedom to choose how long they wish to paddle. We also provide paddleboarding with a qualified Instructor, including private 1-to-1 tuition, fun family sessions or open mixed group lessons.
We believe in using quality kit, which means you get to try Red Paddle Co’s fantastic boards and equipment when hiring with Paddleboard The Lakes. Whether you are a confident paddler who wants to try our boards before you buy your own, or you are a first-timer who needs to feel comfortable and stable on a beginner’s board, Red Paddle Co Ride 10’6” Inflatable SUPs are the perfect all-round boards for any type of rider. We were all beginners once and care about how you feel by bringing you a personalised bespoke experience that always follows our key principles – to ensure safety on the water at all times, respect our customers & the environment in which we paddle and, of course, to always have fun!
We care about our customers and want to give you a simple, stress-free experience, which is why we suggest booking in advance here on our website to avoid disappointment and to ensure Instructor availability. However, we do try to be as accommodating as possible and know how unpredictable the weather can be here in the Lakes, so we also offer on-the-day walk up board hire bookings on a first come, first served basis for those last minute, spontaneous adventures.
On site we can offer parking, staff at our Paddle Hut to answer any questions and enquiries, a small changing and bag storage facility down near the water (all valuables are left at your own risk) and use of The Swan Hotel toilets and Health Club changing rooms.
Back again for another year we are offering locals and regular visitors to the area the chance to become a seasonal member with us at Paddleboard The Lakes! NEW for 2024 we have the Ice Cream Hut opening next to us down at the marina, serving up delicious real dairy ice cream for all of our lovely customers, hotel guests and passersby - we even have doggy ice cream to treat your four-legged friends after their walk!
Newby Bridge also has other exciting attractions now within walking distance thanks to the development of the West Windermere Way - an accessible footpath that runs directly past our Paddle Hut through the grounds of The Swan Hotel. This opens up so much more to do without having to travel by car; including visiting the Lakes Aquarium, or taking a journey on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway and Windermere Lake Cruises, making The Swan Hotel a fantastic base for a holiday.
